To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

Software version - Over The air (OTA) updates
How to download Over the Air (OTA) updates
T-Mobile pushes software releases to customers via Over-the-Air (OTA) update. When you see a prompt for a software update, perform one of the following actions:
- To update the software, tap Install now. The update may take five-10 minutes to download. After updating, the phone automatically restarts.
- To wait and update later, tap Install later. A new reminder appears within six-24 hours.
There are two kinds of software updates:
- Simple patch: This only patches software bugs and features. It does not reset the phone.
- Full software update: The full software update resets the phone and removes saved settings or applications. The update warning provides an alert before information is erased. Go to Play Store to download lost applications at no cost.

Airplane mode
How to turn on or turn off airplane mode
Airplane mode turns off the wireless radio. This allows you to use programs while traveling on an airplane, but not make or receive calls. To turn airplane mode on or off, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless & networks.
- Tap Airplane mode to turn on or turn off wireless services.

Change band
How to change the frequency of the band selection
When traveling outside of North America, your phone must use the 900 MHz/1800 MHz GSM frequency band to get a signal from an international carrier. Band selection is automatic. If the phone fails to change its band selection, turn it off and then back on.
To set the phone to register only on 2G networks, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless & networks.
- Tap Mobilenetworks.
- Tap Use only 2G networks to select or clear the checkbox.

If data roaming and data synchronization options are enabled, you incur charges for accessing the Internet, e-mail, or synchronizing data while roaming.

To turn on or turn off data roaming, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless & networks.
- Tap Mobilenetworks.
- Tap Data roaming to turn on (enable) or turn off (disable) data services when roaming.

Manual network selection
How to perform a manual network selection to register on a network

To manually select the wireless network the phone connects to, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless & networks.
- Tap Mobilenetworks.
- Tap Network operators.
- Tap Search networks.
- Scroll to and tap the desired network.
- If prompted, tap OK to disable data services and continue search.
Note: The phone detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.
Reset
Master reset
How to perform a master clear or factory data reset
To perform a master clear, follow these steps:
Note: A master clear or factory data reset restores the original factory settings and erases content, including downloaded ringtones, images, programs, and contacts stored in the internal memory. This feature allows for resetting of sound profiles, display settings, and phone or memory card settings. However, if you want to try resetting some factory settings without losing any data, then clear system cache before a master reset.
- Back up all necessary data and synchronize files. See: Prepare for a master reset and back up data on Android
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Clear the Back up my data check box. If this data is backed up, the phone will not completely reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Clear or select the Erase SD card check box.
- Tap Reset phone.
- Tap Erase everything.
- If prompted, enter the password.
Note: The default password is 1234. - Tap OK.
10. If necessary, enter and confirm the password again.
11. Tap OK.
Master reset using hardware buttons
If the phone is locked, frozen, or unresponsive, you can reset it using the hardware buttons instead of the menu. To perform a hard reset using the hardware keys, follow these steps:
- Back up all necessary data and synchronize files. See: Prepare for a master reset and back up data on Android.
- If the phone is plugged into the charger or USB cable, unplug it.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Down, key.
- While pressing the Volume Down key, press and release the Power key. Continue holding Volume Down.
- When the Android images appear on the screen, release the Volume Down key.
- Press the Volume Down key twice to scroll to Factory Reset.
Note: It may take a moment for the cursor to allow you to scroll down.
- Press the Power key to initiate the master reset. The device restarts, shows a black reset screen, and then restarts again.
Soft reset
How to perform a soft reset
A soft reset clears and shuts down all active programs. This can help when the phone is running slower than normal or not performing properly. To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:
- Save any files that are open.
- Press and hold the Power key on top of the device to turn off the phone.
- Tap Power off.
- Tap OK.
- Press and hold the Power key to turn on the phone.

To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.

Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234. - Tap OK.
- Enter the new SIM PIN code.

To lock or unlock the phone, follow these steps:

How to turn on or turn off the screen lock
Screen lock causes the phone to lock when you turn it off. Each time you turn on the phone, the phone is locked and you must draw a pattern or enter a PIN or password. To turn on / off or edit the screen lock, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Location & security.
- Tap Set up screen lock.
- Select one of the following options:
- Pattern
1. Tap Pattern.
2. Read the instructions for creating a personal screen unlock pattern to secure your phone.
3. Tap Next.
4. Review the simulation.
5. Tap Next.
6. Touch and slide to draw a pattern, connecting at least four dots.
7. Tap Continue.
8. Touch and slide to draw your pattern again.

The SIM card lock is used to protect the SIM from being used in other phones. When you enable the SIM card lock, the phone prompts you to enter a PIN after turning it on. To turn on or turn off the SIM card lock, follow these steps:
Turn on
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Location & security.
- Tap Set up SIM card lock.
- Tap Lock SIM card to select and enable the SIM lock.
- Enter the desired SIM PIN.
- Tap OK.

- Tap Set up SIM card lock.
- Tap Lock SIM card to disable the SIM lock.

If you enter the PIN code incorrectly several times in a row, the phone blocks you from attempting again. To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:
Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.
- Contact us to request your PUK code.
- Tap Emergency Call.
- Enter **05*PUK*NewPIN*NewPIN#.
Note: The phone reboots to the swipe-unlock screen.
Unblock - SIM (SIM subsidy unlock)
How to enter a SIM subsidy unlock code

The SIM subsidy unlock code allows the phone to use a SIM card from another wireless carrier. To enter the SIM subsidy unlock code, follow these steps:
Important: Stop if you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. The phone locks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.
- Verify the IMEI by typing *#06#.
- Submit a new request.
- Enter 7465625*638*Unlock Code#.

You can sync mail, contacts, and calendar events by setting up one or more account types. To use accounts setup, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, touch the Menu key.
- Touch Settings.
- Touch Accounts & sync.
- Touch Add account.
- Touch Google.
- Follow the instructions on screen.

How to set the alarm clock
To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Application Tray button.
- Tap Clock.

- Tap the first alarm.
- Tap Turn alarm on to enable or disable the alarm.
- Tap Time.
- Tap the + or – symbol to set the time.
- Tap AM or PM.

Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for the correct time while the phone turns on. To turn on or turn off NITZ, follow these steps:
Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your phone, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Date & time.
- Tap to select or deselect Automatic.
