Overview

Use this page to understand typical data speeds when browsing from a T-Mobile device.

Additional Information

Actual Speeds Will Vary

  • Typical network data speeds depend on several factors:
    • Device capability (GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G)
    • Network you are using (2G or 3G)
    • Network changes
    • Network traffic volume
    • Time of day
    • Service outages
    • Signal strength
    • Terrain, structures
    • Weather
    • Overall performance of the Internet
  • The device speeds vary depending on its operating system, processor, battery life, running applications, peak theoretical speeds, and distance from the cell site.
  • Data sticks almost always offer higher speeds than smartphones because they use the power of a laptop with larger batteries, processors, and other technologies.
  • Downloading is faster than uploading.
  • There is no way to predict an exact speed with so many factors affecting the your experience.
  • The minimum throughput for all technologies is >20kbps
    • Current GPRS speeds allow typical data performance between 35 kbps - 45 kbps.
    • The following data activities work comparably with EDGE or 3G:
      • Email
      • Instant messaging
      • Text messaging
      • Picture messaging
      • Sending pictures via email
      • Downloading ringtones, CallerTunes, wallpaper, light data files
