4G is available and connected, but I'm not connected at all

On my way home today, I noticed that my 4G connection on my Samsung Galaxy S3 seemed to be acting up. Before, it was fine, but during the bus ride, I noticed that the Facebook app had new notifications one after the other, and then it stopped. Using any app to connect online would ultimately fail and not connect. It's as if I had no connection, however, the funny thing was that there WAS a 4G connection still available and I was apparently using it, at least according to the notification bar icon. I could see the 4G icon up there, complete with the orange and green down/up arrows blinking, signifying that I was connected and using the 4G connection, but it was never reflected in any app. I never had any new notifications, nor did even going to Google.com on my Chrome app would load. During my trip home, I did whatever I could think of: Closing apps, uninstalling apps, clearing RAM, restarting the phone, removing the battery. Did this a few times, and nothing would change: The 4G icon was still in the notification bar blinking, but nothing would load.

Cannot tell if this issue is connected with the hardware or the service. It should be noted that I am indeed on the unlimited data plan.

Any suggestions? I have not called T-Mobile support yet. I am home now, and connecting to wifi works perfectly fine. When I try to use only 4G: Nothing happens still. I have not even used this phone nor T-Mobile for over a month yet and I'm quite dissatisfied, especially with the spotty reception before here in San Francisco. I had occasional issues connecting, but now this is a complete issue. Really hope there's a simple solution to this, other than switching providers.
