I received the over-the-air update to Android 4.0.4 today and now my phone is stuck on EDGE (2G).  I took the phone into a T-Mobile store where after spending an hour on the phone with technical support, they told me they would get back to me in 72 hours because they are not sure what the problem is.  They told me I was the third person to come into that store with this problem after doing a firmware update.

If anyone else is having this problem, we want your examples too. Please try these steps and leave us this information when you post:

  • What is the:

    IMEI:
(IMEI is at Settings > About > Phone identity)
    Location (city/address of public area):
    Build number:
(Build number is at Settings > About > Software information > More)

  • Test the SIM card in another phone if available, and see if problem continues. If another phone is not available, then do you know if other (not One S) devices in the area have the same problem or not?

  • Wipe the cache partition

  • Go to Settings > Mobile network > Network mode > make sure GSM / WCDMA autois selected.

  • Press and hold the Power key for 13 seconds. Do not touch anything on screen. The device will restart itself. When restarted, check if the phone connects to 4G. If it does not, repeat this power cycle another 2 times. Does it connect to 4G on any of these attempts?

  • Download a speedtest app (like FCC Mobile Broadband Test) and provide:

    Upload speed:
    Download speed:
(this helps us narrow down where the problem is occurring)

  • What other troubleshooting did you do already?
