Why was my line disconnected

I was an at&t customer. My family signed up online to switch to T-Mobile, including getting new phones. This evening, at 8:20pm, our AT&T service was disconnected by T-Mobile. So now we have no cell service. We have no land line, so we have no way to make outgoing calls. I was under the impression that service with AT&T wouldn't be disconnected until we had a way to connect with T-Mobile. We obviously can't call T-Mobile. The online chat is "super busy". My husband took our phones and rushed to the nearest store, but he may not make it before it closed. Naturally, they don't open until tomorrow morning at noon. We are obviously very disgusted with T-Mobile right now, and we have no way to contact them, so I'm trying here. Is there any way for us to connect our current phones online without talking to someone in person or on the phone. This is really poor customer service and an awful way to start off the customer relationship.
