Data usage
Data usage indicator
To turn on, set, or turn off the data usage indicator, follow these steps:
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Data usage.
- Choose from the following options:
- To turn on a data usage limit, follow these steps:
- Tap Set mobile data limit to select the check box and then tap OK. A new horizontal red bar appears in the graph.
- Touch and drag the red bar up or down to the desired data amount. When you reach this data amount, your data connection is automatically disabled.
- To change the data usage limit, follow these steps:
- From the graph, touch and drag the red bar to the desired data usage setting. If you exceed this setting, your data connection is automatically disabled.
- From the graph, touch and drag the red bar to the desired data usage setting. If you exceed this setting, your data connection is automatically disabled.
- To turn off a data usage limit, follow these steps:
- Tap Set mobile data limit to clear the check box.
- Tap Set mobile data limit to clear the check box.
- To set a data usage warning, touch and drag the orange bar. A warning will not automatically disable your data connection. Instead, you will receive a notification in the Status bar when you exceed the data warning limit.

View data use by app
To view how much data certain apps are using, follow these steps:
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Data usage.
- If necessary, tap the Data usage cycle field to select the time period to be studied for the data usage.
- If necessary, from the graph, touch and drag the White bars to adjust the time period to be studied for the data usage.
Note: Below the graph, the dates to be studied will be displayed. - Swipe up and view the data usage for applications (largest to smallest).
Internet browser
Browser cache
To clear the mobile browser cache, follow these steps:
Internet
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Internet.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Delete personal data.
- Tap Cache.
Chrome
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Chrome.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Clear browsing data.
Note: By default, Clear the cache is automatically selected. Also, 'Clear browsing history' and 'Clear cookies, site data' are also automatically selected. - If necessary, tap Clear browsing history or Clear cookies, site data to clear the check box and prevent deleting this information.
- Tap Clear.
Browser cookies
To clear the mobile browser cookies, follow these steps:
Internet
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Internet.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Delete personal data.
- Tap Cookies and site data.
Chrome
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Chrome.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Clear browsing data.
Note: By default, Clear cookies, site data is automatically selected. Also, 'Clear browsing history' and 'Clear the cache' are also automatically selected. - If necessary, tap Clear browsing history or Clear the cache to clear the check box and prevent deleting this information.
- Tap Clear.
Browser history
To clear the mobile browser history, follow these steps:
Internet
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Internet.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Delete personal data.
- Tap History.
Chrome
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Chrome.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Clear browsing data.
Note: By default, Clear browsing history is automatically selected. Also, 'Clear cookies, site data' and 'Clear the cache' are also automatically selected. - If necessary, tap Clear cookies, site data or Clear the cache to clear the check box and prevent deleting this information.
- Tap Clear.
Browser windows open / close
To open a new browser window or close one, follow these steps:
Internet
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Internet.
- Tap the Windows
icon.
- To close a window, tap the red -- icon inside the desired window to be closed.
- To add a window, tap the + icon at top-right. Tap the URL field and enter the desired web address and then tap Go.
Chrome
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Chrome.
- Tap the Tabs icon at top-right.
- To close a window, tap the x icon inside the desired window.
- To open a new window (called 'tab' in Chrome), tap New tab.
- Tap the Search or type URL field and enter the desired web address. Tap Go.
Turn on / off JavaScript
To turn on or turn off JavaScript in the mobile browser, follow these steps:
Internet
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Internet.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Advanced.
- To turn on, tap Enable JavaScript to select the check box.
- To turn off, tap Enable JavaScript to clear the check box.
Chrome
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Chrome.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap Content settings.
- To turn on JavaScript, tap Enable JavaScript to select the check box.
- To turn off JavaScript, tap Enable JavaScript to clear the check box.
Sync
Background data
To turn on or turn off background data, follow these steps:
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Data usage.
- Tap the Menu key.
- To turn on, tap Restrict background (data) to clear the check box.
- To turn off, tap Restrict background (data) to select the check box. Tap OK.
Sync apps & accounts
To add or edit apps and accounts to sync, follow these steps:
- From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- Under 'My accounts,' tap the desired account type (for example, Google).
- From the main account screen, tap to adjust any available settings.
- At the top of the screen, tap your email address or user name to adjust sync settings for an individual account.
- To add a category to automatic sync (for example, Sync Contacts), tap the category to select the check box.
- To remove a category from automatic sync (for example, Sync Contacts), tap the category to clear the check box.
Note: Tap Sync now to manually sync all categories with selected check boxes.
Gmail
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Gmail.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap your email address.
- Tap Gmail sync is [ON / OFF]
- To turn on, tap Auto sync app data to select the check box.
- To turn off, tap Auto sync app data to clear the check box.
- If turned on, tap Days of mail to sync and then tap the desired setting.
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Email.
- Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
- Tap your email address.
- To turn on, tap Sync email to select the check box.
- To turn off, tap Sync email to clear the check box.
- If turned on, tap Sync schedule and then tap the desired settings.
