Is it really worth having insurance on your phone ?

I have a samsung galaxy note 2 and it's been great for this past year.Well today I noticed that my phone started to malfunction, it was doing it for the past few weeks but today has been the worst. It crashes a lot by that I mean it freezes and it takes a minute to function again and it does that multiples times through out the day. okay.. so i finally had enough of it. I called Tmobile and it turns out my phone is still under "warranty". So I'm excited. I mean i go to college and I rely a lot on my phone to write down due dates and other important deadlines. At the end the rep is telling me all these different things and she gets to the void part. she asks me if there's any cracks on my screen( which at that time there wasn't any present) and then proceeds to tell me that if it has any cracks or other physical damage that I will be charged some ridiculous fee. I didn't pay any attention because that kind of info didn't concern me at that time. Well, the phone call ends. I go back to studying and as anyone knows , we college students are ALWAYS multitasking. Yep you guys guessed it. I ended up dropping my phone and it produced a small crack on my screen. It's not too huge but it is noticeable if you inspect it closely.  Now i am stuck.. and i dont know what to do. When i called for the issues i was primarily having i didn't have a small crack  so none of the info applied to me. So here's my first question.. how much will they charge me when they see that my phone has a crack? I know this will void the warranty but its such a small crack and I was having worse issues before this happened.

Okay.. so heres my original question. Is it really worth having insurance on your phone if you're getting charged 12 dollars a month? I contacted the insurance company and they want me to pay $175. That doesn't seem like a lot of $$ for some people but keep in mind that I am a college student. I live off ramen and vienna sausages haha X). It just seems ridiculous that I still have to pay that much after paying $12 a month for my insurance. I would understand if it was a cheaper BUT it is not. Well what do you guys think ? Am I being milked by this insurance company or do you think the price is right ?. Those $12  a month i feel like i am wasting could be put towards better meals.

Do you guys pay for insurance or not ? . sorry for my bad sentence structure and grammar errors. Long day
