Samsung Galaxy Note (T879) Troubleshooting

I have a lot of issues with this phone (maybe I just haven't gotten used to it yet) but I went through the manual with no help (very small and pretty useless beyond the general setup) so I was wondering if someone could help me out with.

1. Connection: When I turn on wifi my 4G turns off and vice versa. As a result, if I have on my wifi and it is too low, I miss calls.

2. Messaging: How do I view participants in a message/thread? I got a message one day that didn't make any sense, when I talked to my husband about it, we realized we both got the same message, but on each of our phones (as we both have the Samsung Galaxy Note - T879) it only showed as being from the recepient, and too us, it didn't show that there were other recipients. I would just like to know when there are other recipients of a message, and if I reply to a group message/thread if my message will be sent to everyone or just the original sender. I know this has to be a function because this phone, although a bit older (from 2011 I believe) is still more up-to-date than my HTC HD7 was and it had the function several updates before becoming obsolete.

3. Messaging/Calling: Every single time I call or message someone, I have to select the method by which I am contacting them, whether I want to use the phone's service or an app. Is there a way I can make the phone the default in all instances instead of having to select for every single person?

4. Messaging: (doubt this is something that can be adjusted but worth a shot) Regardless of sender (it happens w/ my husband who has the same phone and provider, my mother that has a dif provider, dif phone, but still android, or my sister dif phone, dif provider, iphone) larger messages are received as a download/MMS so I have to click to download and often times it takes several attempts if I can even receive it at all (it just fails to download and refreshes the screen without showing any error message or anything else). I have one for instance that is only 2KB from my mother that I can't retreive so either she will have to retype it splitting it up, or I can't see it -_-' Pictures are like that as well, they don't automatically show, I have to download them every time. Is there a way to change this? I have unlimited data, messaging, and calling so its not like it will hurt if someone sends me a large file and the phone automatically accepts it. If it is not normal, could it be because I turned off the auto-sync functions to save my battery?

5. Phone Status: My phone doesn't know it's own number. That is, the area in the settings where it says phone number, ip address, bluetooth address, etc for the phone number it has 'unknown'. I can't manually change it and I worry its suggestive of an internal error or a problem with my initial configuration if the phone number isn't set in there.

6. Applications/Memory/Battery: If I install an SD card and save applications to it rather than the device memory, would it help the system run smoother? Additionally, would this be more taxing on the battery (since there may be additional actions to retrieve and access the data)?

7. Misc: How do I do a screenshot. I swear the phone started telling me how, then suddenly it changed its mind and I haven't been able to figure it out (and I've only ever had the functionality on the PC or for in-app use only). I feel like an absolute noob right now. I've rebuilt xbox 360 consoles, repaired/built multiple windows pcs (hardware and software), I unlocked and upgraded my HD7 to windows 7.8 (the highest version it would remain stable w/), and repaired (multiple times) both of our HD7s keeping them going for over 3 years, (never once bricked) yet simple things like screencapture on an android eludes me -_-'

8. Android: Is 4.0.4 the highest version of Android available for the T879?

9. Battery/Memory: What is the normal drain/battery usage and system usage of the display for the note? what about the android system? Other common apps? I just want to make sure all my items are in normal range... Is it normal for the battery to show unopened apps at 1%?

10. Memory/Apps: How do I get apps like facebook and such to close/stop using memory? Is there a way I can see all the apps that use GPS?

I have some other issues (I refer to here:Samsung Galaxy Note issues) that may lead me to replacing the phone, but I would just be exchanging it for the same model (malfunctioning phone for a good phone) so I would just like to know how to do these things so I can use the phone properly in these first few weeks without incident. Any help is greatly appreciated.
