T-Mobile I need my phone number back!!

I had a prepaid phone plan with T-mobile for a while and decided to buy a new smart phone, and change my plan to a contract (postpaid), but I really needed to keep my old phone number that I have for more than 5 years.

So bought the new Samsung Galaxy III, with new contract and I was given a temporary number, and I was told to call customer service and initiate the porting of my old phone number; I did that and customer services told me it was going to be about 48 hours, I waited for almost a week, so I called back and things got interesting, customer service gave me wrong instructions, I was told to talk to prepaid, and cancelled my old service, and to come back to contracts, and that they then will do the transfer. I did that tough I was thinking it was weird, then call back to contract, I was told again my phone number will transfer to the new contract in about 24 hours; waited another 72 hours... tired of waiting, I took my new phone back to the store and cancel the new contract, and I told the salesman in the T-mobile store that at his point I just need my old prepaid service and phone re-established, the T-mobile store, called customer service, and they said that I needed to get a new sym card for my old phone, and that need to paid for a prepaid plan, I did that, I really need my old phone number back, the T-mobile store representative called T-mobile customer service and they said my old phone number will be restore back within 48 hours....72 hours and waiting..

Is anyone had a problem like this?, any suggestions on the next step?.,
