What phone to migrate to from Windows Phone?

$

I know that this really is each person's personal opinion. But I'd like to hear what others have to say about those of us still using a Windows Phone. My first two cell phones were basic Nokia's from T-Mobile. Then when I went the smartphone route on my third phone I decided to stick with Nokia and got a Nokia Lumia 925 with Windows 8 Mobile. Then when an app I liked stopped getting updates on Windows 8.1 mobile I went with an Alcatel Idol4s with Windows 10 Mobile. So I've never had an iPhone or an Android phone ever. And I'm kind of stuck on what to do next, after my Windows Phone is no longer usable of course. Windows Phone is dead, so another Windows Phone won't be a viable option.

But which should I get, Apple or Android? On the one hand I don't want to pay top dollar for an Apple. Sure, they're sleek and now have a good longevity record. But I feel like my phone shouldn't cost more than my laptop does. On the other hand I'm kind of mad at Google for killing the Window's Phone. Ok, so maybe it isn't all their fault. But they did help kill it by not allowing Google services on Windows Phones. Not that I'm a fan of Google services, I got along fine all this time without them or by watching YouTube in the web browser.

Part of me tells me to go with an older generation iPhone. The LG Aristo 2 Plus and Motorola moto e play 5th gen are $150. But an iPhone 6s (or 6) is only a little over double that, with the potential of lasting longer, perhaps twice as long as far as being updated would go, assuming that the Aristo and Moto e play won't get any future OS updates and the iPhone 6 and 6s still has a couple years left. I mean it would make sense to me to pay more for a phone if that phone is going to last longer, wouldn't it? Plus the iPhone 6 and 6s still have headphone jacks even though they are iPhones! Woohoo!

But there's another side of me that makes me want to ditch both Apple and Android and go with an Alcatel Go Flip with KaiOS. At least KaiOS seems to have a better chance of sticking around than Windows Phone did. And I'm not too happy with the reports of both Google and Apple spying on everything their users do. Microsoft and Kai probably do the same thing, who knows. Plus I like to be different. (At one time I owned an air-cooled car, a diesel car and an all-electric car all at the same time with no normal gasoline car like everyone else has.) And going to a flip phone with KaiOS in 2019 (or 2020 when my Windows Phone dies) would be quite different. I prefer to do all my computing and such on my bigger electronic devices anyway.

Android: Does T-Mobile act as a "gatekeeper" for updates?

$

Just bought a Google Pixel 3a at the local T-Mobile store, trading in my old "original" Pixel.

I bought the old Pixel directly from Google and simply moved my old SIM card into the phone and received OS updates and monthly security patches directly from Google.

Since the new phone was sold by T-Mobile as part of a promotion with an implied 2-year commitment, and the phone is actually "locked" to the T-Mobile network, I'm curious about just how much control T-Mobile will be exerting over this phone.

Will T-Mobile be curating the OS updates and monthly security patches, with an inevitable delay, or will they continue to arrive directly from Google?

[According to the date on the box, my phone was built or initialized in early April and is still at the March security update and won't offer me the April or May updates when I ask for them. This could either mean T-Mobile is slow-rolling the distribution or just that Google is a little slow on the uptake]

No access to MIM / account

Hello

I have no access to prepaid MBB at t-mobile.com/connect me or mim.T-Mobile.com

I keep a balance on account, and needed to purchase a data pass, as I am traveling. I used the message us to contact TMobile, and rep advised me to call the prepaid line for assistance? Rep offered to add data pass manually for me.  I asked when this would be fixed, as has not worked for quite some time. He advised me engineer is aware of problem and are working on it.  I asked if I will have to do each time I want to add a data pass . Rep would not answer me directly, but gave me a support link as for my options.  Link on TMobile support " website not working " is from 2016 ! Does that means there is no ETA on this fix?

For those who have a prepaid MBB only account ( tablet ) how does one access and purchase a data pass, or check data usage?

What are you thoughts / input on this issue?

T-mobile lied to me TWICE. T-Mobile, when will you make good on your promise?

Before I start, please do yourself a favor and switch to one of the legitimately GOOD providers like Verizon or AT&T.  You will save money in the long run and get better quality service.  Read below to understand why.

I started a T-Mobile account in Nov 2018.  Before this, I checked their coverage map to confirm coverage in my primary area of use.  Lie #1: T-mobile's coverage map claims that here was coverage my area even though there was not.  For over 3 months, I suffered from lack of coverage and missed many important calls that went straight to voicemail, and only received notification of these voicemails at the end of the day.

I called T-Mobile support MANY times to try to hopefully resolve this.  None of there solutions worked.  Finally, at the end of February, I called again and spoke with a T-Mobile tech support agent.  This agent ran some diagnostics on his end and confirmed that there was no T-Mobile coverage in the area I lived in, even though the coverage map said there was.  THIS AGENT THEN SUGGESTED THAT I SWITCH TO ANOTHER PROVIDER.  However, I had already refilled my account with money prior to this conversation.  Lie #2: THE AGENT PROMISED THAT T-MOBILE WOULD REFUND THE MONEY TO MEGiven this suggestion and promise of a refund, I immediately made the switch to a better provider with greater coverage.

It has been over 2 months and T-Mobile refuses to give me money back and has been giving me the runaround each time I call.  I have wasted MANY hours pleading with customer service agents (most of or all of whom are outside the US).

My questions to T-Mobile:  Are you satisfied with giving false information about your coverage?  Are you satisfied with breaking on your promise to give me a refund or will you finally make good on your promise?

Unlocked phones

I am having some issues with unlocked phones.

I have several of devices and none of the work properly on T-Mobile.   When I call support they basically blow me off because I am not using a T-Mobile branded handset.   They also assume that when you say "unlocked" phone that you have taken another carriers phone and had it SIM unlocked and are taking the phone from another carrier to T-Mobile.

What support also does not seem to get is that there is a wide variety of factory unlocked phones that are designed for the North American GSM frequencies and some of these phones actually have features such as Band 12, VOLTE and WiFi calling.

2 phones I am having trouble with specifically are the BLU R1 HD and the Alcatel Pixi4 (5).

The BLU does not support Band 12/Volte.   The Alcatel does support Band 12.Volte.

The Alcatel seems to work fine when it is on a 4G LTE single and the VOLTE indicator is lit.

When these phones are showing that they are on a 4G signal, when you call the phone, the phone sometimes will not ring.   This is not consistent.  About half the time the phone will ring, but the other half the time the phone does nothing and the call rolls to voicemail.

When the phone is called you can watch the signal icon change from 4G to 3G and the phone MIGHT begin to ring.   Sometimes the 4G indicator fails to change at all.   I have this issue at home, in the car and at work.   I do not think this is a signal quality issue.

Both phones have no problem making outbound calls.

I setup a new line of service on a new SIM and I have the same issue with the new number/account.  I also borrowed a T-Mobile SIM from a buddy, and it had the same issue.

I went to ATT and setup a new prepaid account with them and these phones work perfectly. I would move my business to ATT but their data speeds are far too slow.

What can be done to rectify this issue?   I think there is a problem with the 4G/3G handoff in my area, but I can't get T-Mobile to take this issue seriously.

Accessing phone records from over a year ago

I have been trying to reach my old phone records form over a year ago and I cannot get them anywhere. I have checked the usage tab on My T-mobile app, it does not go that far back. I contacted customer support twice and still not received them. The first time I asked I got the bill instead of the call logs and the second time I was supposed to get a link which I have not received. It has been days. All suggestions are welcome.

Why does my grandfathered plan no longer have international data?

for my old plan (Nationwide Talk & Text, from the early 2000’s), I use to be able to get a $20,10 day/1 GB pass for international data. I used this as recently as last Autumn. When chatting with T-Mo support yesterday they told me this is no longer an option and it’s been removed from the system. They said my only option for international data at this point is to switch from my grandfathered plan to a One plan.

This can’t be true. Is it?

All phones on my plan randomly having issues with SMS and MMS messages

Hello. I have 4 phones on my family plan

Note 9 - T-Mobile

S7 Edge - T-Mobile

OnePlus 6T - T-Mobile

OnePlus 6 - Unlocked with T-Mobile data matching the 6T

All 4 phones are having issues with receiving texts from each other. Both SMS between each other and MMS between all 4 of us. Some times 3/4 will receive a message and 1 wont, other times messages are delayed as much as a few hours between phones. Its not just when my phone( 1+ 6) sends messages.

I've wiped all the caches of each phone and reset/reconfigured all APNs.

We live in the OKC area and spend the whole day in various major metro areas, not in random, unpopulated areas. We all also try to use wifi as much as possible. The issues happen both on wifi and 4G LTE

Its getting frustrating that we're missing appointments and having delays but what else are we missing from other people that we don't know about or can't tell?

Please help!

Hi,

I used prepaid account about 7 months and switched to postpaid one week ago. I spoke with 5-7 different t-mobile representative/technicians (spend about 3 hours total) and no one can't help or say when I can use my account. I see "Uh-oh, it looks like we have our wires crossed. Please try again later." error message when I am trying to login in. I can't use my Netflix as well without access to my profile.

Intermittent Edge ( E ) Data Service Instead of LTE

Device: iPhone 8 with iOS 12.2 (MQ62LL/A)

I live in downtown San Francisco where LTE service should be more than ample according to coverage maps. Since switching to T-Mobile, I've experienced great LTE service 90% of the time but sometimes my phone will switch down to Edge mobile data randomly. I know it's not a poor coverage area because it has happened near my office and home where service is usually pretty good. Sometimes it will switch back to LTE if I go into Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE and turn LTE off then back on, and then restart the phone. But this is a long and painful process especially if you're standing in line somewhere trying to use your phone to complete a purchase, pull up an email, etc.

Anyone have any tips? Getting so frustrated I may switch back to Verizon which would cause me great pain I've tried contacting my team of experts but they haven't been able to resolve the problem. They opened network trouble ticket to see if there was an outage in my area but didn't find anything.

I purchased the phone from Amazon. It carries a 90 day warranty under an Amazon Renewed Guarantee. Who do I bother to do the unlock? Also, did this phone come with a wired headphone (ear buds)? Thanks for any replies!

How long does it to take for refund to process

$

I cancelled my t-mobile service in March, and it is May 14, and I have still not received my credit balance.

Everytime I call, I get different and varied answers, but my credit balance is not getting refunded.

Almost feels like borderline fraud, as no idea why a valid credit balance takes this long to process.

I was an 18year old customer, and had an habit of prepaying for about 6 months of my bill.

In hindsight it sounds stupid, but I thought I was going to be a forever T-mobile customer.

And now 3 months since account cancelled, and I am still waiting for my refund to process.

Landline callers get busy signal or Number not in service or Number cannot be reached as dialed

$

I ported my "Landline" over to T-Mobile from OOMA. Despite the issues of getting it ported over properly, it finally did get ported over. I thought all was well and good. This number will act as my "Landline" (aka Home) phone even though it's actually just a cell phone. So we ported it into an Alcatel Flip phone which works just fine.

I thought everything was okay until people started trying to call and would get one of the following:

     Busy (sometimes a fast busy)

The number you called cannot be reached as dialed, please check the number and dial again.

The number you called is no longer in service.

All of these are extremely frustrating, especailly when you consider I have not been able to use this phone number effectively for going on 2 months.

I have made NUMEROUS (i.e DOZENS) of calls to 611 to get this resolved. Thing done:

     Reboot phone

     Reset Network Settings

Swap SIM Card with other device (Problem follows the SIM Card to new device)

Have them re-send Programming (with reboots along the way)

Replace SIM card with a newly (brand new) SIM Card.

     Try previous steps (Multiple times)

The phone, although it's a flip phone, I can call any numbers (Landline, Mobiles, IP Phones, etc) that I have tried. Landlines, VOIP Phones, PBXs (that I have been able to try) continues to get one of the above messages. I get text messages, the data works, and I can receive Mobile calls.

After the New SIM Card, it seems like the T-Mobile Landlines (From the Store and while on with the various support under 611) can reach the impacted Mobile number.

I am in Pennsylvania and had my Sister in Colorado try (Clearly a different area code and exchange) and she got the "Number disconnected" message.

I am, truly open to any new things to try. I am currently waiting on the "Engineers" to re-send the the "Programming" over the network (Again). They tell me that it can take anywhere from 2 hours to 24 hours and that they will get back to me after it's done. That's today 5/10/19 at about 5 PM. Of course they said the same thing on 5/7/19 at 6:30PM and I got nothing back (which is why I called again today.)

So any suggestions or ideas would greatly be appreciate.
