Having trouble with updating apps

To update an app I have to first uninstall it and then reinstall it, otherwise I get the "Insufficient storage" error message.  I only have necessary apps installed to begin with (and I haven't installed that many anyway) so there are none I want to uninstall.  Also, there are none that I can move to SD Card either since that is not supported for most of them and I have already moved the two I can to it.  This is quite aggravating considering how often some of these apps are updated.  I feel like updating apps is becoming another chore to do each day.  Is there any way to fix this?
