Troubleshooting

Basic Troubleshooting

Backup data not available

If you do not have backup data available after factory reset or after receiving a new device, you are probably signed in with the incorrect account information.

  1. Perform a factory reset again.
  2. If the issue persists, please try a different sign-in option:
    • Sign up with HTC Account
    • Sign up with Facebook Account

Important: You need to select the same account type you used to back up your personal account.

Backup Fails

HTC Backup saves your data to the Dropbox cloud service. If back up is not working, please follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that Dropbox has at least 250MB of free space by navigating to the Dropbox APK from All apps

Note: Accessing your Dropbox account will also check that your password is correct.

  1. Tap Menu.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Check your available memory here under Space used.

FAQ

How do I delete my HTC Account?

On our website (www.htcsense.com), sign into your HTC Account, click the drop-down arrow in the upper-right corner, click Account settings, and then Delete Account. Please read the termination details and statement, and then follow the instructions in the dialog box.

If I sign in with my Facebook account, will HTC have access to any of my personal information?

Yes, HTC will function in a similar manner to many of the applications that use Facebook Connect authentication. Before you sign in with your Facebook account, you will see a legal statement on the same page.Tap on the Facebook information link and you’ll see the information HTC Account has access to.If you are not comfortable with this, then please do not sign in with Facebook on the HTC Account screen. At all times, you control whether or not HTC periodically reaches out to you by email with HTC offers, product information, and newsletters.

Does HTC Backup merge data and settings with what's already on my phone?

HTC Backup is designed to make your new HTC phone just like your old HTC phone, so with only a couple of exceptions (e.g. personal dictionary) it over-writes data and settings on your new phone. In addition, you can restore your backup content to any HTC phone with Sense 5.0 or higher.

How does HTC Backup secure my data?

We use SSL and AES-256 bit encryption to encrypt your information. On backup, settings are encrypted on the phone and uploaded over an https connection. On restore, settings are downloaded over an https connection and then decrypted on the phone before being written to the appropriate system database. An HTC account, a Dropbox account and a supported HTC device are required to access the settings stored in the cloud.
