Tethering via USB

To share your mobile data connection with a computer over a USB cable, follow these steps:

 

Desktop Manager 6.0 and later

 

Set up your Mobile Internet settings

Before you can use your BlackBerry smartphone as a modem, you must set up your Mobile Internet settings.

  1. Connect your smartphone to your computer.
  2. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Tools> Mobile Internet settings.
  3. Select T-Mobile US from the Profile drop-down list.
  4. Click OK.

 

Connect to the Internet

  1. Connect your smartphone to your computer.
  2. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Tools> Start Mobile Internet.
  3. Click Connect. Your phone is now sharing its mobile network data connection  with your computer via the USB connection. To end the connection, click your Internet connection status.

 

Desktop Manager for Mac

 

  1. Install BlackBerry Desktop Software on the Mac computer.
  2. Using a USB cable, connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the Mac computer.
  3. On the menu bar of the Mac computer, click the Apple icon, and then go to System Preferences.
  4. Click Network. A dialog box stating New Interface Detected appears.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click Advanced to complete the modem configuration.
  8. Verify the following information:
    • Vendor: Research In Motion
    • Model: BlackBerry IP Modem (GSM)
    • APN: epc.tmobile.com
  9. Click OK to save the configuration changes.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. Ensure that BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac is closed.
  12. Click Connect. Your phone is now sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the USB connection. To end the connection, click Disconnect.
