Hello Folks,
This is my first post on the forum.
Over the holidays I did a road trip from San Francisco-Las Vegas and then from Vegas to LA and back.. I have done this kind of a trip multiple times when i had an ATT connection before and as far as i remember I consistently had 3G coverage. I barely saw EDGE coverage.
This was the first time I did this trip with my Tmobile connection and was shocked to see major chunks of I-5 and Hwy 58 between Bakersfied and Barstow showing the GPRS sign and a totally dead data connection. I cant remember seeing the GPRS(The notorius G) symbol on a mobile phone before....
Even when driving from San Jose, Ca to santa cruz on hwy 85 i see EDGE coverage. It is just unbelievable that there is EDGE running on such a densely populated area. Again when I was on att even since I moved to a 3g capable handset I have not seen EDGE in this area.
I am very lucky that my wife has a H2o wireless(att mvno) connection for data usage on such trips.
Whenever we were on the road I pretty much had a useless data connection showing G or E.
Is there any hope of this improving in 2014?
I also think it would be more wise to put some of the LTE resources to convert all these ancient GPRS/EDGE sites to HSPA+. I had a nexus 4 till nov and then got a moto x and except upload speeds i dont see any gain in performance in LTE vs HSPA+ 42.
Tmobile really needs to ease up on this LTE race because the moment you move out of a city you have a dead data connection. I would rather prefer HSPA+ connectivity all through..
Looking forward for a more usable data connection while travelling in 2014...
Thanks,
@P
