My current family plan has 4 lines, 1000 shared minutes (more than enough), unlimited text/data with 3 phones up to 2Gig high speed and am paying roughly 160/month where the phones were free after rebate.
With the new plan it looks like my monthly payment goes down $20 plus I get the unneeded unlimited talk, but I will have to fork over roughly $2400 if I want new phones. In reality that means I am going from 160 to 240 / month if I include the cost of new phones.
When I take a quick look at something similar at AT&T, I will pay 215/month including the cost of phones.
So, in the past T-Mobile *by far* was the best value if you had a multi-line family plan, I remember that when I shopped around almost two years ago the competition was probably 60 / month more.
Apparently that has changed, so now I am thinking that maybe I should jump to AT&T before my contract expires since they now have the same type of offer as T-Mobile recently proudly announced at CES and will pay part of the ETF.
