Drivers for computers
Your device has the capability to share its mobile data connection with a single computer via a USB cable.
Tethering works with Windows® 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista®,and Linux. For more information on tethering with operating systems, visit www.android.com/tether.
For Windows XP, you must install the appropriate driver on your computer before you can tether. To install the driver, go to

When you connect your device to your computer with the USB cable, you can either tether or access files on the memory card but you cannot do both. If you want to use your computer to access the memory card, then you must first turn off tethering.
Mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi
Set up mobile hotspot
To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:
Note: It is NOT possible to configure the following options:
- Allow/block specific devices
- Number of maximum device connections
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless and networks.
- Tap Tethering and portable hotspot.
- Tap Configure portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
- If desired, enter a unique name for the network SSID.
- Tap the Security drop-down menu.
- Tap to select from the following options:
- Open
- WPA PSK
- WPA2 PSK
- If desired, tap the Password field to enter a security password.
Note: Your password must be at least 8 characters long. - Tap Save.
- On your computer or another capable device, connect to your tablet (SSID) via Wi-Fi hotspot.
Turn on/off mobile hotspot
To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:
- From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless and networks.
- Tap Tethering and portable hotspot.
- Tap to select the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot check box.Note: Your device starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so you can connect it to other computers or devices. Your device’s default SSID is AndroidAP.
Tethering via USB
To share your mobile data connection with a computer over a USB cable, follow these steps:
- Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
- On your device, from any Home screen, tap Apps.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless & networks.
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot.
- Tap to select the USB tethering check box.
- Your device starts sharing its mobile network data connection with your computer via the USB connection.
