Went through unlock process, but no confirmation

I have an iPhone 5s I bought directly from Apple in November. I called T Mobile customer service to inquire about unlocking my phone on Jan. 28. A few days later I got an email saying that I should backup/sync my phone to my computer and that after 72 hours I would get a message on my phone saying it had been unlocked.

 

It's now been 6 or 7 days since I received that email from T Mobile, and I have synced/backed up my phone to my computer several times in that time period, but I have not received any confirmation message.

 

I called T Mobile service to ask about this and they said the only thing I can do to check if it is unlocked is to put a SIM card in from another carrier and see if I can get a signal. That isn't helpful at all as I hardly have time to get another temporary account and SIM card just to check on whether my phone is unlocked.

 

I'm going to China for business tomorrow. Is there any way for me to confirm that my phone is unlocked, and if not, to unlock it ASAP?
