Backlight

 

Brightness

To raise or lower the screen brightness, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Screen.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. Clear the Automaticbrightness check box, if necessary.
  6. Tap to select or clear the Automatic brightness check box.
  7. If Automaticbrightness is not selected, touch and drag the Brightness slider left or right.
  8. Tap OK.

 

 

Duration

To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlightdims, follow these steps:

Device login

 

Create and log in to new Google account

To create and log in to a new Google account, follow thesesteps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accountsand sync.
  4. Tap Addaccount.
  5. Tap GoogleAccounts.
  6. Tap Createaccount.
  7. Tap the Emailfield and enter the name you want before the@ symbol in your email address.
  8. Tap theFirst name field and enter your first name.
  9. Tap the Lastname field and enter your last name.
  10. Tap the Entera password field and enter a password.
  11. Tap the Confirmpassword field and re-enter the password.
  12. Tap Next.
  13. Tap the SecurityQuestion drop-down menu.
  14. Tap the desired security question.
  15. Tap the Answerfield and enter your answer.
  16. Tap the RecoveryAddress field and enter a backup email address.
  17. Tap Next.
  18. Review the Google Terms of Service and tap I agree, Next.
  19. If prompted, enter the security word you see in the picture.
  20. Tap Next.
  21. Tap Done.
  22. Read the Terms of Service and then tap I accept. Create my account.

 

 

Log in / out of existing Google account

To log in to existing Google account, follow these steps:

 

Log in

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accountsand sync.
  4. Tap Addaccount.
  5. TapGoogle Accounts.
  6. At he Email field and enteryour Gmail or Google email address.
  7. Tap the Passwordfield and enter yourpassword.
  8. Tap Signin.
  9. Review the backup information.
  10. Tap Done.

 

 

Log out

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accountsand sync.
  4. Tap the account you want to remove.
  5. Tap Removeaccount.
  6. Review the information about what is deleted when theaccount is removed.
  7. TapRemove account again.

 

Note:Some applications require at least one Google account to be able to functioncorrectly.

 

 

Create and log in to new Samsung account

To create and log in to a new Samsung account, follow thesesteps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accountsand sync.
  4. Tap Addaccount.
  5. Tap Samsungaccount.
  6. If prompted, tap your country and tap OK.
  7. Review the Terms and tap to select the Iaccept all the terms above check box.
  8. Tap Accept.
  9. Tap Sign-up.
  10. Enter your email address, create a password, and enter yourdate of birth.
  11. Tap Sign-up.

 

 

Reset your Samsung account password

  1. On your computer, go to www.samsungdive.com.
  2. Click Log in.
  3. Click Forgot your E-mail or password?.
  4. Click Find Password.
  5. Enter the email address you used to setup your account, the on-screen security code, and your date of birth.
  6. Click Confirm. An email with password information issent to your address.
  7. Open the email and click the link.
  8. Create a new password and click Confirm.

Network

 

Turn on / off Airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off the wireless radio. This allows youto use programs while travelling on an airplane, but not make or receive calls.

 

To turn on airplane mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Tap to select the Airplane mode check box.

 

To turn off airplane mode, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Tap to clear the Airplane mode check box.

 

 

Turn on / off Browser message (WAP Push)

WAP push messages (browser messages) allow you to downloadringtones, wallpapers, and other content from the Web. WAP Push messages aresupported but cannot be turned on or off.

 

 

Change band

To change the band selection, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wirelessand networks.
  4. Scroll to and tap Mobilenetworks.
  5. Tap to select or clear the Use packet data check box.

 

 

Turn on / off data roaming

To turn on data roaming, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wirelessand networks.
  4. Tap Mobilenetworks.
  5. Tap to select the Dataroaming check box.

 

To turn off data roaming, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wirelessand networks.
  4. Tap Mobilenetworks.
  5. Tap to clear the Dataroaming check box.

 

 

Perform manual network selection

To manually select the wireless network the tablet connects to,follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wirelessand networks.
  4. Scroll to and tap Mobilenetworks.
  5. Tap Networkoperators.
  6. Tap Search Now.
  7. Tap OK todisconnect the data service to search for an available network.
  8. Tap the network you want to use.

 

The tablet detects and registers on wireless networks insideT-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted toT-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas whereT-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

 

Enable Firmware OverThe Air (FOTA)

 

To enable FOTA functionality, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. Tap Software update.
  5. Read the Terms and tap to select the I accept all the terms above check box.
  6. Tap Accept.
  7. Tap one of the following options:
      • Sign-up
        1. Enter your email address, create a password, and enter yourdate of birth.
        2. Tap Sign-up.
    • Sign in
      1. Enter the email address and password you used to create yourSamsung account
      2. Tap Sign in.
  8. Tap to select or clear the following check boxes:
    • Auto update
    • Wi-Fi only
    • Push messages
  9. To check for updates, tap Update.
  10. Tap OK.

    Reset

     

    Back up device files to computer before master reset

    Note: A masterreset will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, videos,applications, and contacts stored in the tablet’s internal memory.

     

    To copy files from the tablet to a computer using a USBcable, follow these steps:

     

    Note: Dependingon your operating system, you may need to download and install Samsung Kies 2.0 before sharing files. Link to: [CP – Download and install Samsung Kies2.0]

     

    On a Windows computer

    1. Connect the included USB cable to the tablet, then to yourcomputer.
    2. On your computer, click Start and then click My Computer to viewyour computer’s folders and files.
    3. Under MyComputer, find the tablet name, SGH-T859.
    4. Double-clickSGH-T859and thendouble-click Tablet toview your tablet’s folders.
    5. Double-click the folder that contains the files you want tomove or copy.
    6. Copy and paste or drag and drop the files from the tabletfolder onto your computer desktop or into another folder on the computer.
    7. When you are finished, disconnect the USB cord from yourcomputer and then from your phone.

     

    On a Macintosh computer

    1. Connect the included USB cable to the tablet, then to yourcomputer.
    2. If a “Samsung Modem” pop-up appears on your computer, click Cancel.
    3. In the Applicationsfolder, double-click Kiesand wait for it to connect with the tablet.
    4. Under SGH-T859,click Music, Photos, Videos, or Podcast to access those types of fileson the tablet.
    5. Select the check box of each file you want to copy to yourcomputer.
    6. Click Save to PC.
    7. Browse to the folder on the computer where you want to savethe file.
    8. Click Save.
    9. When done, click on the Kies drop-down menu and click Exit.
    10. Safely disconnect the tablet from the computer.
    11. Filetypes and locations on tablet
      • Note:This is not a complete list of files and folders, and some ofthe items listed may not appear on your tablet. Be sure to locate and back upany content you want to save.
      • Alarms
      • DCIM (photosand videos)
      • Download
      • Movies
      • Music
      • Notifications
      • Pictures
      • Podcasts
      • Ringtones

     

    Other files may not be in a folder, including files youpreviously transferred from your computer to the tablet, and files from Quickoffice – (filenames ending in .docx,.pdf, .pptx, and .xlsx).

     

    Perform master reset

    A master reset restores the original factory settings andmay erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, programs, andcontacts stored in the internal memory. It does not erase data stored on theSIM card or memory card (if available).

     

    To perform a hard reset, follow these steps.

     

    Note: Unless Back up my settings and Automaticrestore are turned off, they may cause recurrence of issues that the masterreset should resolve.

     

    1. Save any open files, and back up all necessary data to acomputer if the tablet is responsive and can synchronize files.
    2. Back up all necessary data that is on the internal memory.
    3. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    4. Tap Settings.
    5. Tap Privacy.
    6. If desired, tap to clear the Back up my data checkbox.
    7. If desired, tap to clear the Automatic restore checkbox.
    8. Tap Factory data reset.
    9. Tap Reset device.
    10. Tap Erase everything.

     

    Perform master reset using hardware keys

    A master reset (factory reset) restores the original factory settings and erases all user data (including settings and downloaded content) stored in the phone’s internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available).

     

    Note: If the handset is locked, frozen, or unresponsive, you can perform a master reset using the hardware keys instead of the menu.

     

    To perform a master reset using hardware keys, follow these steps:

     

    1. Save any open files, and back up all necessary data to a computer if the tablet is responsive and can synchronize files. 
    2. Press and hold the Power/Lock key, tap Power off, and then tap OK to turn off the tablet. 
    3. Press and hold the Power/Lock key and Up Volume key at the same time. 
    4. Release the Power/lock key when the Samsung logo appears. 
    5. Release the Up Volume key when the Android image appears. 
    6. When the menu appears, press the Up Volume key to select wipe data / factory reset.
    7. Press the Power/Lock key to select. 
    8. Press the Down Volume key to scroll to Yes – delete all user data
    9. Press the Power/Lock key to select. 
    10. Press the Power/Lock key to select reboot system now.

     

     

    Perform master clear

    4. Release the keys when the Android images appear,
    5. Press the Down Volume key to select the Android imagewith the box.
    6. Press the Up Volumekey to select.
    7. The MANUAL MODEscreen will appear.
    8. Wait 2-3 minutes.
    9. Press the Down Volume key to scroll to wipe data/factory reset.
    10. Press the Powerkey to select.
    11. Press the Down Volume key to scroll to Yes – delete all user data.
    12. Press the Powerkey to select.
    13. Press the Powerkey to select reboot system now.

     

     

    Perform soft reset

    A soft reset clears and shuts down all active programs. Thiscan help when the tablet is running slower than normal or not performingproperly.

     

    To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:

     

    1. Press and hold the Power/Lockkey.
    2. Tap Power off.
    3. Wait about 15 seconds and then long press the Power/Lock key to turn the tablet backon.

    Security

     

    Change – SIM PIN code

    To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Location and security.
    4. Scroll to and tap Setup SIM card lock.
    5. Tap to select the LockSIM card check box, if necessary.
    6. Tap Change SIM PIN.
    7. Enter the old SIM PIN code.
      Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
    8. Tap OK.
    9. Enter the new SIM PIN code.
    10. Tap OK.
    11. Enter the new SIM PIN code again to confirm.
    12. Tap OK.

     

     

    Change – Security code

    We’re sorry, but this feature is not available on yourtablet.

     

     

    Lock – Application lock

    We’re sorry, but this feature is not available on yourtablet.

     

     

    Lock – Display lock

    Locking the display protects againstaccidental key presses. No password is required to unlock.

     

    To manually lock the keyboard, follow these steps:

     

    Quickly press the Power/Lockkey to lock the display.

     

    To manually unlock the display, follow these steps:

     

    1. Quickly press the Power/Lockkey to wake the display.
    2. Touch and drag the Lockicon in any direction to unlock.

     

     

    Lock device

    Device lock causes the tablet to lock when you turn it off.When you turn the tablet back on, you must enter a password.

     

    To lock the tablet, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Location and security.
    4. Scroll to and tap Configure lock screen.
    5. Tap one of the following: 
      • Off
      • Unscure
      • Pattern
      • PIN
      • Password

     

    To unlock the tablet, follow these steps:

     

    Upon screen lock, draw the lock pattern, or enter the PIN or  Password.

     

     

    Lock SIM card

    The SIM PIN code is used to protect the SIM from being usedin other tablets. When you enable the SIM PIN lock, the tablet prompts you toenter the code after turning it on.

     

    To lock the SIM card, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Locationand security.
    4. Tap Setup SIM card lock.
    5. Tap to select the LockSIM card check box.
    6. Enter the SIM PIN code.
    7. Note: The defaultSIM PIN code is 1234.
    8. Tap OK.

     

    To unlock the SIM card, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Locationand security.
    4. Tap Setup SIM card lock.
    5. Tap to clear the LockSIM card check box, which will disable the SIM card lock.
    6. Enter the SIM PIN code.
    7. Note: The defaultSIM PIN code is 1234.
    8. Tap OK.

     

     

    Unblock - PIN (PUK Code)

    Related errors:

    'PIN code blocked. Enter PUK code:

    'Enter PUK code'

    If you enter the PIN code incorrectly several times in arrow,the device blocks you from attempting again. To enter a PUK code and unblockthe PIN, follow these steps:

     

    Important:You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong codecan permanently damage your SIM card.

     

    1. Contact Customer Care (link to http://www.t-mobile.com/Contact.aspx)to request your PUK code.
    2. Removethe SIM card from your tablet Link to: [CP-Remove SIM] and insert it into the SIM card slot of adifferent T-Mobile device.
    3. Turn on the device.
    4. Follow the unblock instructions for the device the SIM wasinserted into, enter a new PIN code of your choice, and then enter the new PINcode again to confirm it..
    5. Turn off the device and remove the SIM card.
    6. InstallSIM into tablet.
    7. Turn on the tablet.

     

     

    Unblock – SIM (SIM subsidy unlock)

    Related errors:

    'Enter Special Code'

    'Please Wait to Enter Special Code'

     

    The SIM subsidy unlock code allows the tablet to use a SIMcard from another wireless carrier. To enter the SIM subsidy unlock code,follow these steps:

     

    Important: Stopif you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. The tabletlocks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.

     

    1. Verify the IMEI by typing *#06#.
    2. Submit a new request by contacting Customer Care.
    3. The unlock code will be sent to you after your eligibilityis confirmed.
    4. Enter the unlock code into your tablet.

    Time and date

     

    Alarm clock – Set

    To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Alarm.
    3. Tap the Plus icon.
    4. Tap the Plus or Minus icons to set the alarmtime.
    5. Tap AM or PM.
    6. Tap the Labelfield and enter a name, if desired.
    7. Tap to select the days of the week that you want the alarmto sound.
    8. Tap the Ringtonedrop-down menu.
    9. Tap the desired ringtone.
    10. Tap OK.
    11. Tap to select or clear the Vibrate and Snoozecheck boxes.
    12. Tap Done.

     

     

    Auto-update (NITZ)

    Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for thecorrect time while the tablet turns on.

     

    Note: When youenter a different time zone and turn on your tablet, it automatically updatesto the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available inall areas.

     

    To turn on NITZ, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Dateand time.
    4. Tap to select the AutomaticDate and time check box.

     

    To turn off NITZ, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Date& time.
    4. Tap to clear the AutomaticDate and time check box.

     

     

    Time / date - Set

    To set the time and date, follow these steps:

     

    1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Dateand time.
    4. If necessary, clear the Automatic Date and time check box.
    5. Tap Setdate.
    6. Tap the Up or Down arrow icons to set the date.
    7. Tap Set.
    8. Tap Settime.
    9. Tap the Up or Down arrow icons to set the time.
    10. Tap the Up or Down arrow icons to select AM or PM.
    11. Tap Set.
    12. To specify a 12-hour or a 24-hour clock, tap to clear or selectthe Use 24-hour formatcheck box.
    13. To display the date in a different format, tap Select date format.
    14. Tap one of the following options:
      • Normal (12/31/2011)
      • 12/31/2011
      • 31/12/2011
      • 2011/12/31
