Backlight

Automatic Brightness – Turn on / off

To enable or disable the automatic brightness setting, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. Tap to clear or select the Automatic brightness check box.

 

Brightness – Increase / decrease

To raise or lower the screen brightness, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Brightness.
  5. Tap to clear the Automatic brightness check box, if necessary.
  6. Touch and drag the Brightness slider left or right.
  7. Tap OK.

 

Duration

To increase or decrease the amount of time before the backlight dims, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Display.
  4. Tap Screen timeout.
  5. Tap one of the following options:
    • 15 seconds
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes
    • 30 minutes

Help

To access the help documents on your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Access T-Mobile.
  3. Tap Settings andSupport.

 

IMEI

To find the IMEI on your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. Tap Status.
  5. View the IMEI number.

 

The IMEI can also be viewed on the back of the device.

Mobile number

To find the mobile number on your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. Tap Status.
  5. View the MDN.

 

Software version

To find the software version on your tablet, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. View the Android version number.

 

 

 

Device login

Create and log in to new Google account

To create and log in to a new Google account, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts and sync.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Tap New.
  7. Tap the First name field and enter your first name.
  8. Tap the Last name field and enter your last name.
  9. Tap Next.
  10. Enter the desired email address that will be checked for availability.
  11. Tap Next.
  12. Tap the Enter a password field and enter a password.
  13. Tap the Re-type password field and re-enter the password.
  14. Tap Next.
  15. Enter a backup email address.
  16. Tap the choose a security question field and choose a question.
  17. Tap Answer and enter an answer to the security question.
  18. Tap Next.
  19. Follow the on-screen instructions.

 

Log in / out of existing Google account

To log in to existing Google account, follow these steps:

 

Log in

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts and sync.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Google Accounts.
  6. Tao the Email field and enter your Gmail or Google address.
  7. Tap the Password field and enter your password.
  8. Tap Sign in.

 

Log out

  • Note: You can use this procedure to remove the primary Google account. Therefore, performing a master reset is unnecessary.

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts and sync.
  4. Tap the account you want to remove.
  5. Tap Remove account.
  6. Review the information about what is deleted when the account is removed.
  7. Tap Remove account again.

 

Note: Some applications require at least one Google account to be able to function correctly.

 

Create and log in to new Samsung account

To create and log in to a new Samsung account, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts and sync.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Samsung account.
  6. If prompted, tap to select your country and tap OK.
  7. Review the Terms and tap to select the I accept all the terms above check box.
  8. Tap Accept.
  9. Tap Sign-up.
  10. Enter your email address, create a password, and enter your date of birth.
  11. Tap Sign-up.

 

Reset your Samsung account password

  1. On your computer, go to www.samsungdive.com.
  2. Click Log in.
  3. Click Forgot your E-mail or password?.
  4. Click Find Password.
  5. Enter the email address you used to set up your account, the on-screen security code, and your date of birth.
  6. Click Confirm. An email with password information is sent to your address.
  7. Open the email and click the link.
  8. Create a new password and click Confirm.

 

 

Network

Turn on / off Airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off the wireless radio. This allows you to use applications while travelling on an airplane, but you cannot make or receive calls or access the internet.

 

To turn airplane mode on or off, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Tap to select or clear the Airplane mode check box.

 

Turn on / off Browser message (WAP Push)

WAP push messages (browser messages) allow you to download ringtones, wallpapers, and other content from the Web. WAP Push messages are supported but cannot be turned on or off.

 

Change band

To change the band selection, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Scroll to and tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap to select or clear the Use packet data check box.

 

Turn on / off data roaming

 

To turn on data roaming, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap to select the Data roaming check box.

 

To turn off data roaming, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap to clear the Data roaming check box.

 

Perform manual network selection

To manually select the wireless network the tablet connects to, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and networks.
  4. Scroll to and tap Mobile networks.
  5. Tap Network operators.
  6. Tap Search Now.
  7. Tap OK to disconnect the data service to search for an available network.
  8. Tap the network you want to use.

 

The tablet detects and registers on wireless networks inside T-Mobile’s calling area, but roaming networks are usually restricted to T-Mobile SIM cards. You can manually select a network only in areas where T-Mobile does not own GSM spectrum.

 

 

Enable Firmware Over The Air (FOTA)

To enable FOTA functionality, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About device.
  4. Tap Software update.
  5. Tap Update.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Read the Terms and conditions and the Privacy policy and tap to select the I accept all the terms above check boxes.
  8. Tap Confirm.

 

 

Reset

Back up device files to computer before master reset

Note: A master reset will erase all downloaded content, including ringtones, images, videos, applications, and contacts stored in the tablet’s internal memory.

 

To copy files from the tablet to a computer using a USB cable, follow these steps:

 

Note: Depending on your operating system, you may need to download and install Samsung Kies 2.0 before sharing files.

 

On a Windows computer

  1. Connect the included USB cable to the tablet, then to a computer.
  2. When a Removable Disk window appears on the computer, double-click Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer.
  3. Double-click Tablet.
  4. Locate the file(s) you want to back up.
  5. Drag and drop or copy and paste the file(s) into the desired location on the computer.
  6. When you are finished, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray of your computer.

 

On a Macintosh computer

  1. Connect the included USB cable to the tablet, then to your computer.
  2. If a “Samsung Modem” pop-up appears on your computer, click Cancel.
  3. In the Applications folder, double-click Kies and wait for it to connect with the tablet.
  4. Under SGH-T869, click Music, Photos, Videos, or Podcast to access those types of files on the tablet.
  5. Select the check box of each file you want to copy to your computer.
  6. Click Save to PC.
  7. Browse to the folder on the computer where you want to save the file.
  8. Click Save.
  9. When done, click on the Kies drop-down menu and click Exit.
  10. Safely disconnect the tablet from the computer.

      Note: This is not a complete list of files and folders, and some of the items listed may not appear on your tablet. Be sure to locate and back up any content you want to save.
    • Alarms
    • DCIM (photos and videos)
    • Download
    • Movies
    • Music
    • Notifications
    • Pictures
    • Podcasts
    • Ringtones

 

Perform master reset

A master clear deletes all user data from the device, including contacts, messages, and downloaded content. This can help when the device is running low on memory. This process does NOT erase or format the memory card.

 

To perform a master clear, follow these steps:

 

  1. Save any open files, and back up all necessary data to a computer if the device is responsive and can synchronize files.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Privacy.
  5. Tap to clear the Automatic restore check box, if necessary.
    Note: You must disable ‘Automatic restore’ before you disable ‘Back up my data.’
  6. Tap to clear the Back up my data check box, if necessary.
  7. Tap OK, if necessary.
  8. Tap Factory data reset.
  9. Tap Reset device.
  10. Tap Erase everything.

 

Perform master reset using hardware keys

A master clear (factory data reset) restores the original factory settings and erases all user data (including settings and downloaded content) stored in the tablet’s internal memory. It does not erase data stored on the SIM card or memory card (if available).

 

Note: If the tablet is locked, frozen, or unresponsive, you can perform a master reset using the hardware keys instead of the menu.

 

To perform a master reset using hardware keys, follow these steps:

 

  1. Save any open files, and back up all necessary data to a computer if the tablet is responsive and can synchronize files.
  2. Press and hold the Power/Lock key, tap Power off, and then tap OK to turn off the tablet.
  3. Press and hold the Power/Lock key and Up Volume key (closest to the Power/Lock key) at the same time.
  4. Release the Power/Lock key when the Samsung logo appears.
  5. Release the Up Volume key when the Android image appears.
  6. When the menu appears, press the Up Volume key to select wipe data / factory reset.
  7. Press the Power key to select.
  8. Press the UpVolume key to scroll to Yes– delete all user data.
  9. Press the Power key to select.
  10. Press the Power key to select reboot system now.

 

Perform soft reset

A soft reset stops all active programs. This can help when the tablet is running slower than normal or not performing properly.

 

To perform a soft reset, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key.
  2. Tap Power off.
  3. Wait about 15 seconds and then long press the Power/Lock key to turn the tablet back on.

 

 

Settings

Change – SIM PIN code

To change the default SIM PIN code, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location and security.
  4. Scroll to and tap Set up SIM card lock.
  5. Tap to select the Lock SIM card check box, if necessary.
  6. Tap Change SIM PIN.
  7. Enter the old SIM PIN code. Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  8. Tap OK.
  9. Enter the new SIM PIN code.
  10. Tap OK.
  11. Enter the new SIM PIN code again to confirm.
  12. Tap OK.

 

Lock – Encrypt device

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 is a Samsung Approved for Enterprise (SAFE) device, a feature that includes device encryption. Enabling the device encryption feature encrypts accounts, settings, downloaded applications (and their data), media, and other files.

 

Important: Before encrypting your device, charge your battery to 80% or higher and attach your phone to a charger because encryption can take an hour or longer. If your phone runs out of battery power during encryption, you may lose data.

 

To enable device encryption, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Security.
    • Note: You must enable a Screen lock password that contains at least 6 characters and 1 number to enable device encryption. If necessary, follow the next 4 steps.
  4. Tap Screen lock.
  5. Tap Password.
  6. Enter your password containing at least 6 characters and 1 number and tap Continue.
  7. Enter your password again to confirm and tap OK.
  8. Tap Encrypt device.
  9. Tap Encrypt device again.
  10. Enter your password and tap Continue.
    • Important: the Encrypt device operation can take an hour or longer and is irreversible. If you interrupt the operation, you will lose data.
  11. If desired, tap Fast encryption check box to select and enable.
  12. Tap Encrypt device once again. 
  13. Follow any additional prompts.

 

Change – Security code – Not supported

Lock – Application lock – Not supported

We’re sorry, but this feature is not available on your tablet.

 

Lock – Display lock

Locking the screen protects it against accidental key presses. No password is required to unlock.

 

To manually lock the keyboard, follow these steps:

 

  • Quickly press the Power/Lock key to lock the display.

 

To manually unlock the display, follow these steps:

 

  1. Quickly press the Power/Lock key to wake the display.
  2. Touch and drag the Lock icon in any direction to unlock.

 

Lock device

Device lock causes the tablet to lock when you turn it off. When you turn the tablet back on, you must enter a password.

 

To turn on screen lock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location and security.
  4. Tap Configure lock screen.
  5. Tap to select one of the following: 
    • Off
    • Unsecure
    • Pattern
    • PIN
    • Password
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

 

To turn off screen lock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location and security.
  4. Tap Configure lock screen.
  5. Enter your current screen lock.
  6. Tap Off.

 

Lock SIM card

The SIM PIN code is used to protect the SIM from being used in other devices. When you enable the SIM PIN lock, the tablet prompts you to enter the code after turning it on.

 

To lock the SIM card, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location and security.
  4. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
  5. Tap to select the Lock SIM card check box.
  6. Enter the current SIM PIN code. Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  7. Tap OK.

 

To unlock the SIM card, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Location and security.
  4. Tap Set up SIM card lock.
  5. Tap to clear the Lock SIM card check box.
  6. Enter the current SIM PIN code. Note: The default SIM PIN code is 1234.
  7. Tap OK.

 

Unblock - PIN (PUK Code)

Related errors:

  • 'PIN code blocked.'
  • 'Enter PUK code'

 

If you enter your PIN code incorrectly several times in a row, your phone will lock and you will not be able to use it again until you unlock it with a PIN Unlocking Key (PUK) code from T-Mobile.

 

To enter a PUK code and unblock the PIN, follow these steps:

 

Important: You must call T-Mobile Customer Care for the PUK code. Entering the wrong code can permanently damage your SIM card.

 

  1. Contact Customer Care and request your PUK code.
  2. Turn on the device.
  3. Enter the PUK code.
  4. Tap OK.
  5. Enter a new SIM PIN code of your choice.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Enter your new SIM PIN code again to confirm it.
  8. Tap OK.

 

Unblock – SIM (SIM subsidy unlock)

Related errors:

  • 'Enter Special Code'
  • 'Please Wait to Enter Special Code'

 

The SIM subsidy unlock code allows the tablet to use a SIM card from another wireless carrier. To enter the SIM subsidy unlock code, follow these steps:

 

 

Important: Stop if you receive an error message while performing the instructions below. The tablet locks permanently if you enter the incorrect code multiple times.

 

  1. Obtain your tablet’s IMEI number by typing *#06# and write the number down.
  2. Contact T-Mobile Customer Care and request a SIM subsidy unlock code. Note: You will be asked to provide your IMEI.
  3. Turn off your tablet and insert a non-T-mobile SIM card.
  4. Turn on your tablet. You will see a screen where you can enter the unblock code.
  5. Enter the unblock code.
  6. If necessary, touch OK.

 

 

Time and date

Alarm clock – Set

To set the alarm clock, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Alarm.
  3. Tap the Plus icon to create a new alarm.
  4. Tap the Plus or Minus icons to set the alarm time.
  5. Tap AM or PM.
  6. Tap the Label field and enter a name, if desired.
  7. Tap to select the days of the week that you want the alarm to sound.
  8. Tap the Ringtone drop-down menu.
  9. Tap the desired ringtone.
  10. Tap OK.
  11. Tap to select or clear the Vibrate and Snooze check boxes.
  12. Tap Done.

 

Alarm clock – Assign a music file as an alarm tone

To assign a music file as an alarm tone, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Music player.
  3. Tap Songs.
  4. Tap the Menu icon at top-right.
  5. Tap Set as alarm tone.
  6. Tap the song to be added as an alarm tone. The circle at right fills with green.
  7. Tap Set.
  8. The song is now set as the alarm tone for all set alarms. If desired, assign a different alarm tone for a set alarm.

 

Auto-update (NITZ)

Automatic update of time and date (NITZ) checks for the correct time when the tablet turns on.

 

Note: When you enter a different time zone and turn on your tablet, it automatically updates to the new time. This feature is network-dependent and may not be available in all areas.

 

To turn on NITZ, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Date & time.
  4. Tap to select the Automatic Date and time check box.

 

To turn off NITZ, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Date & time.
  4. Tap to clear the Automatic Date and time check box.

 

Time / date - Set

To set the time and date, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. tap the Apps icon.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Date and time.
  5. If necessary, tap to clear the Automatic Date and time check box.
  6. Tap Set date.
  7. Tap the Up or Down arrow icons to set the date.
  8. Tap Set.
  9. Tap Set time.
  10. Tap the Up or Down arrow icons to set the time.
  11. Tap the Up or Down arrow icons to select AM or PM.
  12. Tap Set.
  13. To specify a 12-hour or a 24-hour clock, tap to clear or select the Use 24-hour format check box.
  14. To display the date in a different format, tap Select date format.
  15. Tap one of the following options:
    • Normal (12/31/2011)
    • 12/31/2011
    • 31/12/2011
    • 2011/12/3
