Memory & SD card: HTC One (LTE)

Manage memory

To manage the internal memory, follow these steps:

 

Restart device regularly

Note: You should restart your phone at least once per day.

  1. Press and hold the Power key.
  2. Tap Restart.


Reduce memory use
Note
: If your phone is running slow, then you can reduce the amount of memory it is using.

  • Remove widgets (Animated widgets and widgets that update information use the most memory)
    1. From the desired Home screen, touch and hold on the widget.
    2. Drag the widget over the Trash can icon and release your finger.

  • Replace a Live wallpaper
    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key and then tap Set wallpaper.
    2. Tap Home screen.
      Note: Tap Home and lock screen if you set a Live wallpaper to the lock screen.
    3. Tap either Gallery or Wallpapers.
    4. Follow the prompts to set a new wallpaper that replaces the current Live wallpaper. 
           
  • Remove unused Home screens
    1. From any Home screen tap the Menu key and then tap Edit page.
    2. Touch and hold on the Home screen to be deleted.
    3. Drag your finger (and the Home screen) over the Trash can icon and release your finger.


Manage applications

Note: Manage your applications to keep your device running smoothly.

 

  • Research and monitor new applications that you install
    • Read Play Store application reviews before installing. Not all applications run smoothly on phones. Read customer reviews before downloading an application to see if it has a history of not working properly.
    • If your device starts having problems after installing an application, consider uninstalling the application (See below: 'Uninstall third-party applications.'

  • Keep applications updated
    1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
    2. Tap Play Store.
    3. Tap the Menu key and then tap My Apps.
      Note: To keep your apps automatically updated, tap the Menu key, tap Settings, and then tap Auto-update apps to select the check box.
    4. Choose one of the following options:
      • Tap Update [xx] to update all applications with updates available.
      • Tap an individual application and then tap Update to update a single application.

  • Uninstall third-party applications (see 'Uninstall App')
  • Clear application cache and data (see 'Clear app cache and data')
  • Clear recent applications
    1. From any screen, press and hold the Home key.
    2. To close an individual recent application, touch an application from the list and drag it to the right.
    3. To close all recent applications, tap the Clear all Image may be NSFW.

  • Never install a third-party Task Manager or Battery Manager
    • These applications interfere with how Android works

 

 

Task manager

A task manager can view running apps and close them. To use the task manager, follow these steps:

 

Access

To access the Task Manager, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap the Menu icon.
  3. Tap Manage apps.

  End applications

To end active applications using Task Manager, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap the Menu icon.
  3. Tap Manage apps.
  4. If necessary, touch the screen and slide left or right to display the 'RUNNING' tab.
  5. Scroll to and select the application you want to end.
  6. Tap Stop.
  7. Tap OK.

 

 

View free memory

To view the amount of free internal memory, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  4. View the 'Available' space values.
    Note: Phone does not have an SD card.

Internal storage (ROM)

Manage storage

To manage the internal storage space, follow these steps:

 

Clear storage regularly

Note: Clear storage at least once per week.

  • Check the available internal device storage (see 'View free storage space' below).

    It must be over 150 MB for your device. The Android system cannot work properly if the internal device storage is below 150 MB. If under 150 MB, use the following tips to clear more storage:
    • Delete unnecessary text messages (SMS) and picture messages (MMS).
    • Transfer pictures and media to a computer to remove them from the phone memory.
    • Clear the browser cache, cookies, or history.
    • Clear Facebook app cache.
    • Manage applications. See section below.
    • Delete the call logs.

Adjust memory storage settings

Follow these tips to prevent your ROM storage from quickly filling up.

  • Set text and multimedia message limits to delete messages automatically
    Note: The default is 200 text and 20 picture messages. You may use this setting to start with, and decrease it if you continue to have problems.
    1. From any Home screen, tap Messaging.
    2. Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
    3. Tap Text message limit and then set the desired limit. Tap OK.
    4. Tap Multimedia message limit and then set the desired limit. Tap OK.

  • Change Gmail synchronization setting to every three days
    1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
    2. Tap Gmail.
    3. Tap the Menu key and then tap Settings.
    4. Tap your email address.
    5. Tap Days of mail to sync.
    6. Swipe down until 3 is selected.
    7. Tap OK.

Manage applicationsMonitor new applications that you install.

  • If your device starts having problems after installing an application, consider uninstalling the application.
  • Consider uninstalling apps using large amounts of ROM.
    1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Tap Application manager.
    4. If necessary, swipe left or right to the All screen or the Downloaded screen.
    5. To sort apps from largest users of ROM to lowest, tap the Menu key and then tap Sort by size. The apps using the most ROM are now listed at the top of the list.
    6. Tap the desired application to be uninstalled.Note: Uninstalling an app will delete the app.
    7. Tap Uninstall and then tap OK.

View free storage space

To view the amount of free internal storage, follow these steps:

 

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Storage.
  4. View the 'Photos & videos' space value.
    Note: Phone does not have an SD card.

Open or delete files using a computer

To open or delete files on the internal storage using a computer, follow these steps:

 

  1. Connect the included USB cord to the phone, then to your computer.
  2. On a Windows computer, an AutoPlay window appears. Double-click Open device to view files using Windows Explorer.

  3. On the computer, double-click the desired folder to access your phone’s files.
  4. On a Windows computer, right-click the file you want to delete, select Delete, and select Yes.
  5. When you are finished, click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray in the lower right-hand corner of your computer desktop.
  6. Click Eject.
    Note: On a Mac OS X computer, drag and drop the file you want to delete into the Trash. When you are finished, drag and drop the virtual drive icon into Trash/Eject.
  7. Disconnect the USB cord from your computer and then from your phone.

 

 

Open or delete files using the device

To open or delete files on the internal storage using the device, follow these steps:

 

Music files
To delete music files, follow these steps:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap Media.
  3. Tap Music.
  4. If necessary, tap the drop down arrow and tap Songs.
  5. Tap Menu icon (Image may be NSFW.

  6. Tap Delete.
  7. Tap OK.
    Note: To delete Albums, select Albums from the drop down menu, touch and hold on the desired folder, and then tap Delete.

  Photo and video files

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Applications icon.
  2. Tap Gallery.
  3. Navigate to the file you want to delete.
  4. Touch and hold the desired file.
  5. Tap Delete.
  6. Tap OK.
